Cinematographic films
TYPES AND CHARACTERISTICS
Movies comedies
Movie comedies are movies that are meant to make you laugh (or at least smile).
A GENDER WITH FINE LIMITS Comic
films are made up of gags, which can be of different types: visual comedy, situation comedy, repetition comedy or the humor of dialogue.
Comedy is a genre whose boundaries are unclear, particularly because it often "talks" with other cinematographic genres: indeed, a detective film can be comic, like a historical film or a fantasy film. Similarly, dramatic comedies are movies whose funny scenes alternate with moments of emotion.
Musicals at the movies
A musical is a film whose story is punctuated by musical scenes, sung and/or danced. It's a pure entertainment film, its tone is light.
Influenced by Broadway dance and song performances (in New York, USA), musicals were born in Hollywood in the 1930s. The genre had its heyday in the 1940s and 1950s.
Dramatic films
A dramatic film, or a drama, is a film that tells a serious story, serious and sometimes sad or tragic. The story is realistic, which does not exclude lighter comic sequences. Filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock has defined it as "life free from boring moments".
SEVERAL TYPES OF DRAMA
There are several types of dramas in the cinema: sentimental drama (a love story), psychological drama (a story that focuses on the psychological evolution of heroes), social drama (a story individual or collective describing a fact of society), the historical drama (which stages the events of a moment in the history of a country or a community), the melodrama (a drama that focuses on the most sad and pathetic aspects of a story) or dramatic comedy (which combines comic elements with a serious story).
Action films
An action film is a film entertainment whose narrative is always in motion, linking action scenes: fights, fights, chases, explosions and special effects of all kinds.
VERY POPULAR MOVIES
Today, action films are among the most popular films (with comic films) and most often have a large budget for performing spectacular scenes and waterfalls.
The story of action movies is often that of one or more characters desperate to achieve their goal, their psychology being less important than the action.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MOVIES OF ACTION
The action film is often associated with other cinematographic genres, and there are several types:
- The adventure film depicts a character confronted with difficult situations which he must attend. go out by all means (strength, cunning, humor, etc.). The action of the adventure film usually propels the hero into an unknown world, which makes his situation all the more destabilizing and spectacular.
- The war movie is a type of action movie that depicts armed conflict. It often deals with the First World War, the Second World War or the Vietnam War.
- the disaster film is a typical American genre, which appears in the 1970s. It describes the survival of a small group of people trapped in a closed world (plane, boat, building, city, etc.) under the threat of a disaster.
- the spy film portrays the hectic and often risky life of secret agents. James Bond is the most famous of these characters.
- The martial arts film is most often made in Asia and shows fights with bare hands or with weapons. The movie kung-fu is one of the most popular, thanks to Bruce Lee.
Animation films
Animated films put motion pictures of motionless objects, such as drawings, modeling clay or paper cut.
A TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTIONIZED BY DIGITAL AND COMPUTERS
The emergence of digital and- computer-generated images in the late 1980s led to a revolution in animation cinema: images are now created and animated on a computer. Huge technical possibilities are thus at the service of the imagination of designers and creators.
Animation films can be original creations or comic book adaptations. They can be comical or dramatic and are not just for kids.
The police films
A crime movie is usually based on a storyline that pits the police with murderers or gangsters.
SEVERAL TYPES OF POLICE MOVIES
The hero of a detective film can be either the policeman (the "cop"), the "thug", or the victim (of a plot or a "manhunt" by example). That's why there are several types of crime movies :
- the classic detective film hashers as aa "cop" in pursuit of gangsters or murderers. Contemporary and realistic, he often deals with so-called "societal" subjects;
- The gangster movie describes the world of mobsters. The police are sometimes completely absent from this type of film;
- black films most often feature a private detective conducting a complex investigation in a hostile world confronting a " femme fatale ";
- the film "casse" presents the course of a gang of mobsters, the formation of the team until the final breakage (in a bank, a casino, etc.);
- the thriller is a suspense movie. The action is sometimes told from the point of view of the victim.
Westerns
The western is a genre that is set in the American West in the nineteenth century.
THE HISTORY OF PIONEERS
The heroes of westerns are the pioneers (also known as cowboys, even if the word literally means "herdsman") who conquered the Indian territories of North America to build the United States. During the history of cinema, this theme of the conquest of the West was first treated in a positive light glorifying the pioneers and their courage, in particular against the Indians. Then, from the 1960s, the approach became much more critical, not hesitating to question the founding myth of the American nation.
Fantastic films
When a film takes place in a universe out of reality (an unreal universe), it can be called "fantastic".
SEVERAL FANTASTIC UNIVERSES
There are different types of fantastic universes, more or less distant from the reality we know. This is why fantasy cinema can be divided into many "sub-genres": the horror film, the horror film, the marvelous film and the science-fiction film (this last sub-genre featuring events and totally imaginary characters).
Fantasy is often associated with other cinematographic genres: for example, a sci-fi film can be comic (this is the case Fifth Element of Luc Besson's), or a detective film can be fantastic (this is the case of Turnaround John Woo).
